SEND

Here at Willersey Primary School, we aim to promote the successful inclusion of pupils with special educational needs and disabilities. We are committed to offering an inclusive curriculum to ensure the best possible progress for all of our pupils whatever their needs or abilities. Not all pupils with disabilities have special educational needs and not all pupils with SEND meet the definition of disability but our SEND Policy covers all of these pupils.

The SEND policy and practice at Willersey has been informed by the Government’s ten year strategy for SEND: Removing Barriers to Achievement, Aiming High for Disabled Children: Better support for families and the SEN Code of Practice.

Removing Barriers to Achievement provides an agenda for action on four fronts:

  • Early intervention
  • Removing barriers to learning
  • Raising expectations and achievement
  • Delivering improvements in partnership.

Aiming High for Disabled Children identifies three priority areas to improve outcomes for children and young people with disabilities:

  • Empowering children, young people and their families in shaping local services
  • Providing responsive services and timely support, particularly at key transition points
  • Improving the quality and capacity of service provision.
